Interview

Classmate Interview: Elaine Chico Cantiveros

The first impression I got when I saw Elaine was that she was outgoing, nice, friendly and a smart girl. Finally, meeting her and having conversation I realized this was exactly how she was. She was born in the Philippines and lived their most of her life, but she recently moved here to the United States about a year ago. She told how in the Philippines education tends to be slightly more important than here in the United States. I saw this as a huge benefit for Elaine because that extra push and knowledge she has received will definitely help her accomplish any goals in life. Her career goal is to become a nurse in a hospital to be able to help out patients. Knowing she will have a bright future is what really motivates her to study and try hard in school. Her mentors in life are her parents and she considers herself as a role model for her little brother. Her motto in life is “if you want something, work hard and go for it.” I am really happy I met her.

Texting & Driving

I believe texting and driving is one of the most dangerous combinations that can lead to injuries and possibly fatalities. When someone is behind the wheel of a car they really need to have good eyesight and their ears open seeing and hearing their surroundings. I don’t know how everybody else is, but when I text I feel like I’m literally inside my own phone and space out all my surroundings. This is definitely something that is the exact opposite of what you should be doing while driving.Honestly I see no point in doing it because their really is absolutely no text message that needs to be replied right after it’s received it can wait. Someone shouldn't risk their life’s while driving just to answer a text that says what’s up? In recent years about 20 percent of fatal crashes have been due to distracted drivers on cell phones. Studies have shown that when your texting you double your reaction time to any road dangers.

It is very important that something be done to decrease the rate of fatal or any car crashes due to cellphone texting. I know bluetooth is already an option, but that has no effect on text messaging instead it’s directed towards talking on a cell phone. I believe texting is much more dangerous for the reason that when your talking you can actually see the road in front of you. A way that might get some people to stop would be setting a high priced fine for texting while driving. Also, requiring all new car models to have enabled voice texting from now on could help. The one way that is sure not to back fire is simply turning off your cellphone when driving. It really doesn't matter how it be solved, but rather how soon it could be solved. This is something that needs to be addressed the sooner the better.

Reality TV

Television has always been a big part of my life, since I was young watching cartoons. As I got older I got more into sitcoms like The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air and shows like Family Guy. Reality shows never really caught my attention, mostly because more then half these shows are fake. I tried to watch Jersey Shore once, but I thought it was so dumb no point at all for even having that show. I remember everyday at school people talking about the show as if it were their own life's. Never understood why people liked the show I thought it was so fake and planned out. Its kind of hard not watching reality TV, since most channels have at least one or more of these shows. I would say I hate them all, but I Just be lying.Their are a few reality TV shows that I do enjoy watching. One show I really like and cant stop watching is Hardcore Pawn. I enjoy it because its just so crazy I just get glued to the TV. Their are some scenes that look fake but the rest looks legit. This show is very interesting and I will probably continue to watch it.

I honestly think some reality shows do harm our society while others actually benefit our society. I think affects the society negatively, because the main audience for these shows are teenagers, and watching these shows can lead to bad decisions. Some shows have bad influences such as drinking and driving, fighting, and many other things  that harm our society. Some bad trends have started because of reality TV mostly due to the celebrities that make the show what it is. I do think their are certain shows that have a good meaning behind them. For example America’s Got Talent lets viewers of all ages see that anybody with a talent can be discovered and get fortune and fame. Good or bad reality television will not be leaving anytime soon.
